Solar Panels
In principle I approve of these schemes.
I suspect that many homeowners are signing the leases without proper
advice on the implications however. Here are just a few thoughts and
warnings.

Check that you do not need consent from your
lender or Listed Building Consent.

Check whether any restrictions are contained
in your deeds that would prohibit the installation of panels.

Will the work be carried out by competent
and honest people? Remember that they will be entering your home and
clambering around on your roof.

If the work is not done well, or the
equipment is faulty, they will have to interrupt your privacy frequently
when they come back to repair or replace.

Most leases are for 25 years. Most
homes change hands two or three times during that period. Will
buyers be encouraged, or even pay a higher price because you have a good
system? Will they be discouraged or want to pay a lower price
because you have a bad system? Will it be easier or more difficult
to obtain a mortgage?

Is the company now and will it always be
properly insured in case, for example, some of their equipment falls off
the roof and causes injury or damage?
I hope that the above is enough to persuade
you to consider the implications fully and to take advice before signing
up to one of these schemes.
