John Meteyard - An
Update
John recently had surgery
for a serious shoulder problem. Other matters came to light and he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour,
obviously frightening news.
Surgery has already removed the vast majority of it.
The
Oncologist now says that because
John's
tumour was found so miraculously early; because it was in a very
accessible part of the brain and had caused John so very little harm (he
got away with a couple of nasty seizures and a replacement shoulder
which apparently isn't too bad); because John has already made an
extraordinarily good recovery from the brain and shoulder surgery;
because, in spite of the way he looks, John is extremely fit, active and
healthy; because he is young - because of all of these things combined,
John has been offered extremely aggressive treatment for his tumour.
This is not offered to everyone.
The treatment will begin sometime in July/August.
Diane and the family have been assured that John would be an ideal candidate for
this treatment and there was an expectation that if anyone could survive
then John ought to.
We have also been told that if John does manage to survive for another
five years then by that time there may be new treatments available for
him to benefit from.
John is already trying to work out how soon he can come back to work!
Meanwhile Sam, Jannette & Martin are keeping his seat warm and his desk
clear, with additional help from Paula Ward, John Callister and others
from time to time.
Thank you for your interest and sympathy.
